5 Tips For Sanitary Makeup Techniques

5 Tips

Makeup is art, sanitation is its armor. Bad sanitation habits can lead to acne breakouts and even dangerous diseases, such as MRSA or Herpes. Don’t be scared! Here are 5 ways that you can enjoy your makeup AND avoid the risk of spreading dangerous bacteria!

Tip 1:  Washing your hands before applying makeup is so important! Your hands carry so many germs around, especially when you touch your phone every 5-10 minutes. We also touch our faces around 15 times an hour. All those germs can translate to diseases if around your eyes, nose, or mouth. It is also useful to keep hand sanitizer in your makeup kit for emergencies!

Tip 2:  You should regularly clean your makeup brushes! Even if you don’t wear makeup every day, it is recommended that you clean/sanitize your brushes at least once a week.

Tip 3:  Sanitizing your brushes is not enough to combat dangerous bacteria; you also have to sanitize your makeup palettes.

Tip 4:  Clean brushes and products won’t stay clean if they’re stuffed into an old, dirty makeup bag. Get rid of old products and clean the inside of the bag with cleansing wipes or alcohol.

Tip 5:  Testing lip products and other makeup products on the back of your hand ???? when in makeup stores. You can hold your hand near your face (but not touching) to see how a color looks! Bacteria leads to diseases when on or around open wounds or parts of the body that carry moisture, such as eyes, noses, and mouths. Be sure to wipe the tested products off of your hand before you leave the store!

Makeup doesn’t last forever! That’s a good thing; it gives you an excuse to buy new makeup! Here is the recommended time that you should keep your products! The dangers of using expired products are way more costly than buying new ones!

  • Mascara – 3 Months
  • Liquid Eyeliner – 6 Months
  • Lipgloss – 6 – 12 months

If you ever have questions about how long you should keep a product after opening it, most products have a recommended usage on it like this:
